Ready, Steady, LEAP!

May 21, 2004 -- How do you create special effects for blockbuster films like Lord of the Rings? What makes a top athlete? How are buildings designed? If you are a young person living or studying in Southwark, Lambeth, Wandsworth, Lewisham or Tower Hamlets, come and find out the answers to these questions and many more on Monday 12 July at Tate Modern, Vinopolis, Bankside Restaurant and British Airways London Eye. Take part in our exciting workshops and discover a different side to learning in London.

The LEAP Learning Festival, organised by London South Bank University in partnership with One London, is a unique opportunity for young people to immerse themselves in the amazing possibilities available right on their doorstep. This day of fun, interactive and innovative workshops will give first hand experience of some of the most exciting opportunities for learning and careers available around the South Bank area. The event offers everything from leisure and tourism workshops on the British Airways London Eye, to joining the Bankside Restaurant's crew and gaining on the job experience of being a chef; an introduction to architecture from leading London practice, Lifschutz Davidson, DJ and MC music workshops with Bigga Fish and meeting top level England Rugby players who will share their experience of being professional sportsmen.

Other workshops, provided by cutting-edge businesses, arts organisations and experts from LSBU include; business and finance, dance (with Rambert Dance Company), digital photography, drama and scriptwriting, film and TV, health, science, special effects, website design, table tennis with Commonwealth champion, Matthew Syed, and Tae Kwon Do. The day will also include DJ and MC performances from the winners of the Lambeth EBP 'Youthology' talent contest, a Kids Company 'Draw on a Dream' art exhibition and the 'LEAP Learning Champions 2004' awards ceremony.

Most workshops require no previous experience (unless otherwise stated), and entrance to all the workshops is free. Places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment. For more information or to make a booking, contact the LEAP team on 020 7815 6779 or visit www.lsbu.ac.uk/leap.
